This devotion inspiring reproduction depicts St. Francis of Assisi standing on the world and holding Jesus on the Cross. This depiction is better known as the Vision of St. Francis, where he is described as having a vision of a six-winged Seraphim on a cross and flying towards him. As it came closer, he realized that it was Jesus with his hands and feet nailed to the cross.

St. Francis understood the vision to mean that he himself would be transformed by seraphic love of God into a perfect image of the crucified Christ.  Waking from the vision, St. Francis found he had received Christ’s wounds into his very own body, holes in his hands and feet, and a wound in his side.
