Dominion: The Nature of Diabolic Warfare - Fr. Chad Ripperger
Dominion: The Nature of Diabolic Warfare - Fr. Chad Ripperger
Paperback
Many works have been written on the nature of diabolic warfare but the contents which are necessary to know are scattered across many different works of the approved authors. Historically, the texts written about exorcism and deliverance were largely in Latin, were not a synthesis of the knowledge of experienced exorcists. The goal of this book is to provide that initial synthesis for the laity. This book is not written in a popular style. It is a bit more technical than most laity are accustomed to. It is not meant to be a quick or easy read, but to provide a thoroughness and a proper level to a theological topic which often is only addressed on a superficial level. Since this book also deals with the intersection of the diabolic with human psychology, it is highly recommended that the reader, prior to studying this text, has at least the fundamental knowledge of human psychology from a Thomistic point of view. To that end, it is recommended that he reads this author’s work Introduction to the Science of Mental Health

While that may result in putting off the reading of this book for a while, nevertheless, the reader is most likely to grasp the points made regarding the intersection between diabolic and human psychology. This text is only to be understood to be a beginning or a foundation and not be considered an exhaustive text, despite its length. It is simply not possible to incorporate all of the wisdom of the Church in the various texts throughout the centuries.
Topics include: angelology, demonology, the structure of authority, the different kinds of diabolic influence in detail, wounds and healing, the role of the sacraments and sacramentals as well as general methods of combat.

So much information!
This is a wonderful resource for learning more about angels and demonic forces. It's not something you "read". It's more of a resource where you read a few paragraphs, then contemplate what is being taught to you. Would have given it 5 stars, but it's paperback, and I would have loved it in hardcopy as I can already see that I'm going to be using this book a LOT.

book review
I have watched several of Father Ripperger's podcasts. He is amazingly insightful into human spiritual needs. This book, Dominion, so far, is even more insightful into human spiritual, emotional, and mental needs to live a spiritually cleaner and less troubled Christian life. Already I have learned there is a connection between forgiveness and repentance that I never heard of or saw before. I may need to repent of those bad actions and thoughts I had while not forgiving those who offended me. And this from reading only part of one chapter. He is not hard to read and understand.

Dominion-Fr. Chad Ripperger Ph.D.
This was bought for my sister, I already had it. It is comprehensive. A bit academic(means I had to look up some words), but everything you'd ever want to know about Angels and their nasty counterparts is pretty much covered here I'd imagine. The author is a Thomist, and a psychologist from that perspective. He is also one of the most knowledgable exorcists on the planet. It's facinating, and sometimes a little terrifying at how the enemy attacks us. If you want one book on this subject. IMHO this is it.
